About Thailand

Temperature: Thailand has a tropical climate and temperatures range from 19 – 38 degrees. Divided into three seasons ‘Hot’, ‘Rainy’ and ‘Cool’.

Population: 65 million approx. 7 million people in Bangkok alone.Area: 514,000 sq metres, which makes Thailand roughly the size of France or Texas.

Language: 92% of the population speak Thai, but as a result of its cosmopolitan capital city established tourism infrastructure, English is spoken and understood throughout much of Thailand.

Religion: 94.6% of Thais are Buddhist, 4.6% Muslim and .07% Christian. Buddhism is a religion and philosophy encompassing a variety of traditions, beliefs and practices, largely based on teachings attributed to Siddhartha Gautama, commonly known as the Buddha. The Buddha lived and taught in the northeastern Indian subcontinent some time between the 6th and 4th centuries BC. He is recognised by adherents as an awakened teacher who shared his insights to help sentient beings end suffering, achieve nirvana, and escape what is seen as a cycle of suffering and rebirth.

Currency: The currency of Thailand is the Thai Baht. Baht come in both coin and banknote form.
The Land of Smiles

Thai is one of the oldest languages in East and South-East Asia. The Thai script introduced by King Rham Khamhaeng in 1283, consisting of 44 consonants and 48 vowels, and is Sanskrit Origin.

A Few Simple Tips:
When being polite, the speaker should end the sentence with Khap (when speaking with men) and with Kha (for when you are speaing with a women).

Some Basic Thai Phrases and Words:
Hello = 'sa-wat-dee khap' (for men) and 'sa-wat-dee ka' (women)
Yes = 'kha'
No = 'mai-khap' (men) and 'mai-kha' women)
Please = 'ka-ru-na'
Thank You = 'kop-koon-ka'
How are you? = 'khun-sabai-di-mai?'
Toilet = 'hong-nam'
Food = 'a-han'
Water = 'nam'
